Brake Inspection

Brake Fluid Exchange

Hydraulic brake fluid has two performance limitations in leaking and absorbing moisture. The Malibu requires routine brake fluid inspections at major service intervals. The brake fluid should be replaced every 60,000 miles or sooner if it loses integrity. This involves removing the old brake fluid, inspecting the brakes, making repairs if necessary, and installing genuine Chevrolet OEM dot 3 brake fluid to specifications.

Brake Pad Replacement

Brake pads do half of the heavy lifting when it comes to creating resistance with the rotors. They are designed to wear away as a fine powder that we call brake dust. They should be replaced when they measure .1 inch or 3mm thick because this is the point that braking and safety risks increase. Your Malibu should have the brake pads inspected at major service intervals and replaced when they lose integrity.

Brake Rotor Resurfacing/Replacement

Brake rotors require routine maintenance or replacement depending upon the wear and tear. Rotors with minor cracking or grooving can be resurfaced. Rotors with excessive grooving or warping must be replaced because the resurfacing needed would remove too much of the disc.
